10 Year Sentence for Assaulting Officers in the County of Lexington

Lexington County Courthouse
Sun, 03/24/2019

Samuel Huguenin Jr., 37, was sentenced recently in the County of Lexington to 10 years on two counts of Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature. Under South Carolina Law, this charge is classified as a “no-parole” offense. This case was prosecuted by Assistant Solicitors Melaine Graham and Todd Wagoner.

Huguenin was fleeing from Saluda County Sheriff's Office and Lexington County Sheriff's Department deputies during the service of an arrest warrant when he accelerated his vehicle into a Saluda County deputy who was on foot. The deputy was able to jump out of the way avoiding injury. Huguenin then drove into the driver’s side door of another Saluda County deputy’s patrol vehicle, causing injuries to the deputy’s left shoulder. Huguenin then opened fire on the officers ultimately injuring himself. Fortunately, no officers were injured by gunfire. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) conducted the investigation of this case.

These actions against law enforcement simply cannot be tolerated in our circuit.
