On Saturday, members of the 11th Circuit Solicitor's Office joined citizens from across South Carolina to "Walk Like MADD" at the SC Criminal Justice Academy. The tribute walk honors victims and survivors of felony drunk driving. This annual event, sponsored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), included participants from local law enforcement agencies, including SC Highway Patrol-Troop 1 and Town of Springdale Police Department.
The Memorial Wall contains remembrance photos of numerous victims from across the state who were killed by drunk or drugged drivers. The goal is to raise DUI awareness and prevention efforts, resulting in #NoMoreVictims.
We also congratulate Lexington Police Department for being named the "Agency of the Year" (department size of 51-100) at the 2017 DUI Enforcement Recognition Ceremony, awarded by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. Also at the ceremony, Lexington P.D. PFC Nick Thompson won the "Officer of the Year" award. Cpl. Thompson had 56 DUI arrests and has trained hundreds of teens as part of the "Alive at 25" program.
