Adam Teon Settles, a 37 year old Greenwood man, pled Guilty but Mentally Ill this week in McCormick County General Sessions Court to two counts of Armed Robbery. Settles pled to charges of Armed Robbery which occurred in McCormick County and in Greenwood County.  Settles was sentenced to ten (10) years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections. Under South Carolina law, Armed Robbery is classified as a violent crime and a “no parole” offense.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant Solicitor Doug Fender. Settles was brought to justice through the combined efforts of the McCormick Police Department, McCormick County Sheriff's Office, Greenwood Police Department, and Greenwood County Sheriff's Office.

On the night of November 17, 2017, Settles entered the McCormick Food Lion while armed with a rifle.  Settles robbed a seventeen year old cashier at gunpoint and then fled the scene with cash from the register.  Settles had been formerly employed at the McCormick Food Lion. The robbery was believed to be motivated by a dispute over pay.  Information obtained by law enforcement led to the identification of Settles as a suspect.  Settles was later apprehended after robbing a credit union in Greenwood County.
