Chief Investigator Matt Martin is retiring today after 27 years of service to the people of the County of Lexington and 20 years with the Solicitor’s Office.

Matt began his career in law enforcement with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department in 1992 where he received several awards and ultimately was promoted to detective. He joined the Solicitor’s Office in 1999 helping to manage a pilot program for drug and alcohol addicted juveniles.

Matt later became an investigator assigned to capital murder cases as well as violent crimes.  In 2008, he was promoted to Chief Investigator responsible for overseeing all investigator case assignments for the Solicitor’s Office.

Throughout his career in our office, Matt has been involved with the prosecution of 8 death penalty murder cases and over 30 non-capital murder cases as well as countless other felony prosecutions.

Most recently, Matt was the investigator who was responsible for working on the death penalty case of Timothy Jones, Jr. Matt played a major role in the years of preparation spent on this case. He carried out his duties with tremendous dedication and was an invaluable asset to the team.

We thank Matt for his tireless service to Lexington County and to the Solicitor’s Office. We wish him well on his next journey.
