Shooting in the Gaston area lands Man in Prison for 10 years

Last week, in the County of Lexington, William Walter Wells, II, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature. Wells was sentenced by the Circuit Court Judge Walton J. McLeod, IV. This conviction is classified as a "no parole" and serious offense.

On January 3, 2019, Wells engaged in a verbal altercation with the victim, who was a family member, while in the driveway of a residence on Tremont Lane in the Gaston area of Lexington County. Wells did shoot the victim three times. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries and was released a few days later.

Wells fled the scene that day and the state of South Carolina. The Lexington County Sheriff's Department's Fugitive Taskforce received information about Wells location and he was taken into custody by law enforcement in La Plata, Colorado.

Wells was on probation at the time of this offense and has a prior conviction for assault and battery.
