Man pled guilty to Attempted Robbery after Social Media helped to Identify him

Fri, 07/27/2018

Social media helped to send Jarcus Maurice Amaker to prison for 6 years for the attempted robbery of a local establishment early last year. Amaker pled guilty this week in the County of Lexington before Circuit Court Judge Frank Addy. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Solicitor Sutania Fuller.

Amaker entered the establishment during the daytime hours while an employee was doing preparations to open. Amaker attacks the victim by grabbing her neck and demands money. She was able to fight him off, which caused Amaker to release her as she fell to the floor. She was able to kick Amaker and run out of the business into neighboring stores. The robbery attempt was captured on video surveillance.

The victim posted a still shot from the video of her attacker on Facebook and an anonymous individual helped identify Amaker. Amaker uploaded a picture to Facebook on the day of the robbery attempt wearing the same exact outfit he was wearing when he entered the establishment.

We thank the Lexington County Sheriff's Department for their work on this case.
