Batesburg-Leesville Man sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Assault

Thu, 06/28/2018

Kendrick Padgett was recently sentenced in Saluda County by Judge Eugene C. Griffith, Jr., to 10 years in prison for his role in an assault that took place in Batesburg-Leesville on March 4, 2017.

Assistant Solicitor Sutania Fuller handled the prosecution of this case for our office. Batesburg-Leesville Police Department handled the investigation.

Padgett, along with four other individuals, conspired to violently assault the victim. They lured the victim over to one of the co-defendant’s homes and all of them violently struck the victim. After the beating in the home, the group carried the victim to the woods, where the victim was assaulted further and tied up. There was evidence that this was a hate crime based on the derogatory slurs made to the victim during the assault. Padgett pled guilty to Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, which is a no-parole offense.
