Robert Tyler Geiger, age 30, was sentenced today in Lexington County General Sessions Court to 15 years for Trafficking Methamphetamine. The sentence was handed down by Circuit Court Judge Knox McMahon.
11th Circuit Assistant Solicitors Matt Edgerton and Melanie Graham prosecuted the case. Assistant Solicitor Edgerton remarked, “Methamphetamine presents an ever increasing public health and safety issue for Lexington County. The job these Troopers do isn’t easy, it’s often thankless, and I applaud their continued commitment to ensuring the safety of Lexington County residents.”
Geiger’s trial was scheduled to begin this week in Lexington County and a jury had been selected to hear his case. Geiger elected to enter the guilty plea instead of going forward with his trial. Shortly after midnight on August 20th, 2017, Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol were conducting a sobriety checkpoint on Highway 6. Geiger was found in possession of an ounce (28 grams) of “ice,” a crystalized form of methamphetamine. A further search of Geiger revealed plastic baggies and a digital scale, both commonly used in the distribution of methamphetamine.
SC Highway Patrol-Troop 1 Troopers Adam Antley and Katie Bradacs, as well as Deputy Andrew Senn, of the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, carried out the arrest of Geiger. The estimated street value of the methamphetamine was approximately $3,000.00. Geiger’s prior record included convictions for methamphetamine and other controlled substances.
