10 Years in Prison for Felony DUI with Death in Lexington County

Thu, 11/16/2017

Judge sentenced Destiny Mills to 10 years in prison for the Felony DUI death of Olivia Johnson. Mills faced 1 to 25 years in prison for this no parole offense. The sentencing hearing took place today in Lexington County. Mills pled to the charge without any plea negotiations. This case was prosecuted by Assistant Solicitor Todd Wagoner and it was investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The investigation revealed that Mills had visited several bars in Columbia prior to crashing into the rear end of the vehicle Johnson was a passenger in and that Mills was driving under the influence of alcohol above the legal limit. The crash resulted in Johnson being ejected from the vehicle and later dying because of her injuries. Johnson’s death was preventable had Mills made the decision not to drive drunk that night.
