Violent Repeat Offender sentenced to 25 Years

Tue, 06/20/2017

Violent repeat offender, James Lee Williams, received a 25 year sentence today in Lexington County for Armed Robbery, Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.

Assistant Solicitor Casey Rankin handled the prosecution of this case and the Lexington County Sheriff's Department led the investigation.

Williams committed these crimes just four months after being released from prison for armed robbery and kidnapping. Williams went on a crime spree on January 18 and 19 of 2016. He broke into a man's home in Pelion and stabbed him. He later robbed a truck stop in Gilbert.

The robbery was captured on video surveillance and Williams was seen leaving the scene in a vehicle that law enforcement later spotted. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and a high speed chase ensued. The driver lost control of the car and was killed in the accident. Williams was found in the car with items linking him to both crimes.

The sentence today sends a clear message to repeat offenders in Lexington County.
