Our battle against domestic violence continues. Cleveland W. Gates, Jr., age 34, was sentenced this week by Circuit Court Judge R. Knox McMahon to 7 years in the S.C. Department of Corrections for Assault & Battery - 1st degree. The case was investigated by Detective Grady Johnson of Lexington Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant Solicitor Bradley Pogue.
The victim in the case sustained significant trauma to her head and face. Gates has numerous prior felony convictions, including Assault & Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, Domestic Violence, and multiple drug distribution offenses.
