This is the reason we do what we do. The prosecution team worked long hours before and during the trial of State v. Nathaniel Hunter. The commitment and coordination of the Solicitor's Office and law enforcement were essential components in achieving justice. Words can't say enough about the bravery of this young mother.
We are grateful to the West Columbia Police Department for your tireless dedication throughout this investigation. Thank you LCSO Det. Phipps for your assistance.
Above all, thank you Sgt. Chuck Bramlett for all that you gave to law enforcement and your community. Working with you was an honor.
It is rewarding to see justice served for such a heinous crime committed against a West Columbia mother and her young child. The trial of Nathaniel Hunter began on Monday in Lexington County and he was found guilty of Attempted Murder, Burglary - 1st degree, and Criminal sexual conduct with a minor this afternoon. He was sentenced to 45 years.
Hunter committed a home invasion during the night and attempted to sexually assault a mother and her child. The mother was shot 5 times while attempting to fight off Hunter and protect her daughter. Miraculously, she survived. We are all inspired by her courage and unconditional love for her child.
